This past weekend I watched A LOT of sports. The proof is in the picture:
Dad and me at a Padres Game
I'm not an avid sports watcher. But when I do sit down and watch a game, I get really into it. It must be that competitive instinct that I have. For example, don't play me in cards...I will FIGHT TO THE DEATH!
The Padres game was super exiting because, well, the Padres are actually doing well this year!!! Also, we won by one run in the bottom of the ninth. Talk about edge of your-seat, chew-on-your-nail kind of exciting! The crowd was obnoxiously loud; thus, I loved every bit of it. Plus I got my spiffy hat, pictured above :D
Of course, I also watched the U.S. play England in the World Cup. Although America tends to not watch soccer, it happens to be my favorite sport to watch; although, ratings show that of all the places in the U.S., more people were watching the U.S./England game in San Diego. We are pretty big soccer fans here! Not to mention that I played soccer as a kid. Watching a sport where you understand every single rule makes a BIG DIFFERENCE.
Oh yeah, and we tied. Did you guys hear about that? hehe. Oh England, mistakes, mistakes.
Overall, I just think I'm getting into watching sports in my old age. With so many crappy, stupid reality shows out there, how can I resist watching some genuine competition? There's something that is thrilling and pure about watching a game--maybe this is accredited to the fact that the viewer ends up being a part of the sport, just through watching and cheering. Oh, and drinking beer. Let's not forget about beer.
where have i been or have you just been posting like crazy. i love live baseball, but whats this about americans not liking soccer? that's just crazy talk. i totally expected an english pummeling, but all i have to say is GO PORTUGAL!!! ... and not a word, i haven't watched todays match yet. :)
ReplyDeletehaha...what I mean is, we don't covet soccer the way that we covet...say...football. But you're right, there are plenty of Americans who love soccer.
ReplyDeleteYeah, guess I've been posting a lot?
I wish older people played soccer the way kids do, a game where there are no positions, only a mass of people running for the ball!
ReplyDeletei can watch any sport if there is food and alcohol involved! just saying!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm with Krystal on that one. I was drunk during most of the 2010 Winter Olympics and enjoyed every minute of it.
ReplyDeleteI need to go to a baseball game so bad this summer!
ReplyDeleteAw this reminds me of when I first moved to Canada and "discovered" baseball haha! I loved it! Remind me to come to a game and drink beer with you someday :)
ReplyDeleteI am the same way - I wil watch anything in person and totally get into it. Especially if there are hotdogs and beer involved. :)
ReplyDeleteI see the family resemblance. Do people say you look like your dad?
ReplyDeleteD.
D--OH YEAH. haha.
ReplyDeleteMy fave US headline (a New York paper) I saw about the USA vs. England was "USA WINS! 1-1!" - sorry kids, but a TIE isn't a WIN... :P
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a sports fan. There are very few sports I enjoy watching. However, I LOVE the NBA, I quite like watching professional rugby (NZ All Blacks are both terrifying and SO HOT), tennis (only live though and at Wimbledon; incidentally should be going to see a few games very soon), and (because I used to do it and coach it) fencing. Diversity is my middle name.

I'm not a big sports fan but I do enjoy the odd rugby game. :) I'm even enjoying the WC.
ReplyDeleteHA! I do, you should win a prize for finding it =) It's a little baby now. I actually had an older one that I had for a long time then had to change it so that's what this one is. village kind of happened in between there but it is way different anyway. i can't seem to mix them.
ReplyDeleteciao!
I like the baseball diamond pic.
