A few comments on chocolate. And Mormons.

I saw the movie Chocolat for the first time yesterday. It's great! Except that it was giving me constant chocolate cravings every 5 minutes!!!

and, I have one more thing to say...

Mormons really are weird. Sorry, I know I am stereotyping. But honestly, I've never had an encounter with a Mormon that wasn't strange.

Ok, ok...so not EVERY Mormon I've met is insane. But the vast majority is crazy and should seriously consider going on medication.

This is why: I work for a childcare agency on the side. I went to a private residence today to watch this little girl, and dude, I swear this girl hardly has a soul. And her mom gave me the creeps. And then when I put the girl to bed, I saw the Book of Mormon on her nightstand and had an "Ah ha!" moment.

Look, I'm not trying to spread hate here, I'm simply giving my opinion. Which is of course always right. Because, I said so.

  1. Mormons kind of creep me out too. I knew a few in my high school. One was big in theater and ended up playing one of the greek chorus girls in Little Shop of Horrors. Another was in orchestra with me and was actually really cool. She just didn't drink soda. There was another one who you know didn't want to be mormon because she definitely tried to bend the dress code. I still think the religion itself is a bunch of crap, but that's just my opinion.

Oh, and a friend of mine used to have a wonderful bit in his standup about Mitt Romney.

  2. I don't know any Mormons personally. But some people say Catholics are strange too. And I didn't notice any strangeness... :)

  3. Yeah, they're weird. I had a Mormon kid in my Boy Scout troop back in the day. He was one out of, like, 15 kids in his family, and his parents were like robots. They ALWAYS smiled, in a creepy kind of way, and the kid was like a robot as well, as in he had 0 emotions whatsoever. I was always afraid to share a tent with him because I feared waking up in the middle of the night to find him staring at me with that creepy gaze.

    Mormons scare me :(

  4. read a little bit about their religion and it might explain a few things lol ... NOT that they are bad people or anything! "I'm simply giving my opinion. Which of course is always right. Because, I said so."

  6. Honestly, I don't think Mormons are any weirder than, say, anyone who believes in the literal translation of the Bible.

I mean, come on. Two of every animal on one vessel?

  7. Mikey: Why shouldn’t the Bible be taken literally? Something beyond your simple, human understanding does not limit God’s ability to act and then record his acts for humans like you to read about generations later. It’s not like God says, “WAIT- I must make sure that MIKEY, one human being among all the COUNTLESS humans that ever walked the earth, understands what I do or HOW I do it before I, the one who CREATED earth, can accomplish my feats.” Um, yeah… Let’s try putting things in perspective. I think the scriptures say it best:

    1 Cor 3:18-20
Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness"; and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile."

Now, Mormons believing that Jesus and Satan are brothers - that is a different thing entirely. You cannot compare that to a literal interpretation of the Bible because NOWHERE in the Bible does it say or imply that. The scriptures are quite clear that Jesus is not Satan (i.e. "A house divided cannot stand")

Moral of the story: Before you start drawing conclusions about the Bible, make sure you've actually read it.

  9. Oh man this got heated fast! I was just going to say: I swear I sat next to a mormon family at the airport. They had like 10 kids and they were eating beef jerky wearing straw hats and talking about how weird california is because people wear bluetooths and talk to themselves.
However, I know a lot of nice mormon people. There are going to be extremists/weirdos in every religion. People are just whack, religion or not. haha!
