Americans Unite...

...in telling Bush to GET THE HELL OUT today. Yay yay yay! This has been a LONG time coming.

This weekend was great...maybe I will tell a few stories later. For now, I am going to watch Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and avoid going to work for as long as possible.

  1. What a patriotic way you have of celebrating. I, on the other hand, and rather drunk from playing inauguration drinking games.

  3. I had tears of joy in my eyes when I saw Bush get into that helicopter and take his place as a historical footnote.

  5. And hopefully now you Bush haters will shut the hell up. I am so tired of you people complain.

But I'm sure you will still find a way to blame Bush even after he's long gone.

  6. Well D, I think there were plenty of reasons to not like Bush. And as a political figure, he needs to take the criticism, along with any support he many have gotten. And that's what I find beautiful about America and why I was interested in journalism in college...we have the right to blame bush if we want to, as you have the right to defend him.

I don't hate Bush, I just don't agree with him on many many levels. I've felt this way since he ran in 2000. I don't personally blame him for the economy or every bad thing that has happened...but do I think someone can do it better? YES.

I'm happy we live in a country where we can take different views and speak those views as well. (we obviously wouldn't find such freedom in China, for instance).

  7. I agree Ashley! I am a Bush-hater since he ran in 2000. I have never liked what that man stands for. I mean, I know this sounds corny...but the air feels different. I mean sh*t 2 million people in Wash. D.C and not ONE arrest, that's AWESOME! Peaceful, and happy...even in the time of a recesssion and war. I love Obama already. YAY!

On another note YAY briget jones!

  9. Ashley, I didn't say anything about your rights. Nor did I imply that you don't have any. I didn’t say, "You should shut up". I said, HOPEFULLY now you will shut up. By the way, it was meant as more of a universal "you". Obviously, this is your blog and a free country, so you can say whatever you want.

My main point was that I am sick & tired of hearing people complain (I forgot the word “hearing” – that was a typo). I can see how what I said that would naturally put you on the defensive. Even so, how do my feelings of frustration undermine your rights?

I didn't even say that I was a Bush supporter; although I did support him. Not because I agreed with everything he did, but because I believe it is the duty of every American to support and pray for our leaders (Now this is just my opinion). The treatment of Bush has been a disgrace and reflects very poorly on our country – if we cannot respect our own leader, how will the rest of the world respect us? To spite a leader that we as a nation voted into office TWICE shows utter contempt for our own political process and quite frankly, makes us look stupid and weak. A house divided cannot stand.

This is what Jesus said about authority in the land: "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God’s". Hopefully, now we will unite behind our new leader and pray that he makes wise decisions. May the decisions presented to President Obama not be quite as difficult as the ones that faced President Bush.

  10. I understand your point about supporting the president in office.

At the same time, (and I think our Constitution has emphasized this) there needs to always be a check on the Prez.

I understand your frustration with everyone making fun of Bush. And while I've made fun of his speaking abilities like the rest, I was mostly upset with his policies and how he related (or let's say, did NOT relate) with other countries.

Now don't think I'm welcoming Obama with open arms, although it's trendy and popular to do so. I am weary of all politics and politicians for that matter.

And bringing religion into the mix, I didn't like how Bush (and many other politicians) liked to throw around religion and their "faith" to manipulate voters. He used religion when it was convenient, and tossed it aside when it was not part of the agenda.

    This I cannot respect.

I still gave to Bush what was Bush's (i.e. my taxes, abided by the law), that does not mean I have to give him my approval.

And because I did not approve of him, I felt it was my patriotic duty to voice those dissenting views...just like I'd like you to voice your views on how much you support Bush, even if I don't want to hear that. I think everyone should SPEAK UP!

I respect your view, except I'm not too fond of anyone telling me to shut the hell up. I think you understand that.

  11. I am sorry for telling you that. I do understand - I tend to come one strong. It was my reaction to the "get the hell out" statement, which I obviously wasn't too fond of, either.

I guess I hit sort of a breaking point with all the Bush bashing and took it out on you. I used to enjoy reading these blogs, but everywhere I looked, someone was verbally kicking around Bush. I know you are not that mean spirited and should not have labeled you like that. I have been reading your blog for a while now and enjoy it.

About the religion. Well, I am a Christian like Bush and you, I think. Lots of people use "faith" to manipulate. This is not what it was intended for, obviously. Only God knows what is in President Bush's heart. I don't think we should judge Bush's faith because it is not our place.

With regard to his actions, though, here's how I see it: If we do not have access to all of the classified information that Bush used to arrive at some of his decisions, how can we truly be objective? Maybe we will never know some of the things that were at stake.

You make a valid point about voicing dissenting views. That is good for democracy. I just wish people would have been respectful in the way they went about it.

We can reach a truce now. haha.

It's always good to have the occasional political convo.
