A Three Sentence Movie Review

1. Magic Mike XXL

That's RIGHT--I saw Magic Mike XXL and I'm NOT SORRY...all the ladies gotta watch this! The script is crap, the plot is negligible, and it really is a terrible, terrible movie. BUT WE ALL KNOW THAT NONE OF THAT MATTERS because I had an absolute blast watching Channing and the boys shake their asses (plus a convenience store scene that was the BEST).

2. Jurassic World

Don't go into it even thinking it will compare to the brilliance of the first--it just can't capture that magic. Instead it capitalizes off of the nostalgia-loving group that is 90s kids, and nostalgia it does deliver in heavy doses, sprinkled with a bit of charm from Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Overall, this makes it a fun one-time watch.

3. Coffee in Berlin

On Netflix Instant
I found this film oddly refreshing and a great watch, down to the symbolism of Frederich not being able to get a damn cup of coffee all day. Not everyone will like this film as on the surface it seems to be about nothing. However, a closer look at all the happenings of Frederich's day reveals an almost clandestine coming-of-age theme that I really just loved.

4. Take Care

On Netflix Instant
The plot is a little unbelievable: woman badly hurt from a car accident guilts her ex-boyfriend to come take care of her, much to the dismay of his current girlfriend (who comes up with this shit?). However, I liked it anyway. It's funny in a realistic way, and somehow also sweet despite the circumstance.

  1. No shame about Magic Mike. Still haven't seen it, but only because I would need to do so for the sake of female camaraderie. I'm not going to torture poor Nick. I may need to look into Coffee In Berlin. It's so hard to find a decent movie on Netflix I haven't already seen. Speaking of Netflix, have you seen Nightcrawler yet? (AHHHHH!!)

  3. I really liked it....but you must be warned: you will never look at Jake Gyllenhaal quite the same after you view this gem. :::Creepy:::: I must say, though, his performance was truly unshakable.

  4. I'm not surprised...that dude TOTALLY has a creepy side. Have you seen Prisoners. That movie depressed me thoroughly!! But okay, I'll watch Nightcrawler...hehehe. WHAT AM I GETTING MYSELF INTO?

  5. I totally want to watch magic mike. i saw the first one with my MIL and her friends.. i think i'll wait for dvd for the next one. i enjoyed jurassic world, i wasn't as obsessed with it as i feel like american kids were (that sounds bad lol) but my husband was not a fan, but then again he was definitely obsessed with the older movies as a kid.

  6. JW was okay. And it does the trick if what you're wanting is a mindless summer blockbuster. But the hubby is right, Jurassic Park is ace here and cannot be touched by any remake/sequel that has been made! DEFINITELY SEE MAGIC MIKE. It's just fun to watch. That is all :)

  7. Hahha good point! I think that you might also find the movie fascinating since you have a background in journalism. Share your thoughts as soon as you're done!

  8. I watched take care recently and liked it too. I just randomly picked it one day and was surprised at how much I liked it. I think I liked Jurassic World more than you though. I went in with no expectations, so I was very pleasantly surprised.

  9. I haven't seen any of these ... yet. (that word, yet) ... BUT what I did do, was carve out the three hours and watched Boyhood. Linklater is a genius and continues to be a favorite.

  10. YESSSSSSSSS to Boyhood. YES YES YES.

  11. It was better than I thought (both to Take Care and Jurassic World!). I just don't think JW reached the caliber of JP, though :)

  13. I gotta keep my street cred too, hahaha! That's why I snuck Coffee in Berlin in the list too in order to say, "see? I'm still deep."

  14. I have to confess that I haven't even seen the first Magic Mike. What's wrong with me, right? My boyfriend suggested we go to a movie this weekend, so who knows....lol yeah right! Although, it didn't look like there was much else at our theatre since I know what you and many others thought of Aloha and I don't plan on watching Terminator or The Gallows. I enjoyed Jurassic World, but of course nothing compares to the original. I did have a soft spot for Blue :-)
