As most of you know, I was really despising my job. Thus, I sent out several applications (to different cities even), went on numerous interviews and waited, waited, waited. (I loathe waiting). I was feeling super drained from the whole process. Just when I said, "I don't think I can go on one more interview," I got a call that I got a job. Funny how things like that work out.
I'll be working for the same university, but a different location. This location means: better hours, a competent boss, and full weekends (which I didn't have before). Rejoice! Now, I don't expect a miracle here, but I expect an improvement in my life. I'm so looking forward to this.
Oh, and one more thing has me smiling today...I bought tickets for a vacation in New York City!! This, of course, has me overjoyed. If you have any tips for must-sees and recommended hostels, please drop them in the comment box.
Things are looking up (and I still have secret plans that I will divulge at the right time). If you work hard towards a change, it will come to you! I refused to stay in a sad place, so I found a way out, with a little help from the Big Guy, I think.
Congrats Ashley!!! Stoked to hear that you'll be outta that old location and will have a better schedule to boot. :) Can't wait to hear about it when we meet up about BOM.
ReplyDeleteYay for a job and full weekends!!!! Congrats lady, so proud of you! Full weekends are the best!
ReplyDeleteAnd yay on NYC...so jealous right now. Whenever you go...have a fabulous trip. You deserve it!
How kismet! I too was thinking of taking a springtime trip to NYC. One of my favorite places. Separately I'll tell you some of my suggestions. Or have I already done that? Lots of writing on my blog about NYC places I've been. Hey maybe we could rendevous at the top of the Empire State Building. Just like in An Affair to Remember! But without you getting run over and paralyzed on the way there. Oops! Spoiler alert!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new gig, and what a great idea to celebrate with a trip! But not having to relocate is great too (though I think you would really have come to love living in Austin; you've got the right kind of spirit and personality for it).
Secret plans...how exciting! Hope they're for good and not for evil. Don't want to see you pointing your pinky finger to the edge of your mouth and shouting to Mini Me to stop humping the laser.
Yes, you did send me an e-mail with recommendations, thanks! I do love Austin, but I suppose now was not the right time. I would never rule it out, though!!
DeleteCongratulations Ashley! I laughed at the 'competent boss' bit - I hear you! And you trip sounds like just the perfect thing. I had a difficult week but I'm feeling a lot better now :)
ReplyDeleteWhen are you going to NYC? I only live about 2 hours from there!
ReplyDeleteApril 24-29...maybe we should get some bacon :) bring ella!
Deleteoh ashley! i'm so happy for you! a new job, a new york trip AND another surprise/change?!? funny how things always seem to come together when we're about to give up.
ReplyDeleteFlower metaphors, huh? Was that flower also previously nourished by artificial light, by any chance? Lol, you know I love you.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on allthatgoodstuff.
Congratulations on the new (and better!) job! Glad you made it out of your current situation, and am wishing you all the best in your new job! yayy!!! As for NYC, I've got a list of food places a mile long... :)
ReplyDeleteGood! Cause I trust your taste and need to know the BEST places :)
DeleteAWESOME! I can't wait for summer vacation!
ReplyDeletecongrats lady!!! change is always good :)
ReplyDeleteI will most certainly give you my recommendations (when I get some free time)! I'll be back!
ReplyDeleteFood: Go to Vanessa's dumplings in Chinatown for super cheap eats(the dumplings and sesame pancakes are my fave!). I like halal food from The Halal Guys (street food!) - also really cheap eats for a huge portion! Go to Home for a lovely, comforting meal in their outdoor garden. The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck has the best and most unusual combinations (I had the olive oil and sea salt on vanilla soft serve and it was surprisingly fantastic!). If nothing else, Levain Bakery is a MUST! The best cookies. EVER. Go there. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteA few must-sees: Central Park (duh), the MoMA, the thrift stores (like Housing Works, Angel Street Thrift shop and Beacon's Closet), the Creative Little Garden (a hidden treasure), walk through the West Village, do Coney Island, venture to Queens, rooftop bars (if the weather behaves).
Will you be coming on your own or with someone?
Thanks jillian! I'll be coming with my roommate. Of course, you should meet us at one of these tasty restaurants you just recommended.
DeleteCongrats! Hope everything goes well for you!
