Facing the Goodbye

Now that I've had a couple days to ponder what I should do in regards to leaving London sooner rather than later, I realized that it was never about having to leave 4 weeks early. In the grand scheme of things, those extra weeks would not make or break my experience here.

What really hit me (a colossal slap across the face) is that I am going to really miss London and the people in it. By taking away that extra month, it made me face the harsh truth that I'm leaving. This is something I've known all along--but it always felt like it was "months away!"

Despite wanting to stay as looooooooong as possible, all I would be doing is prolonging the inevitable goodbye, while stressing myself out with finishing my dissertation amongst moving, couch surfing and trying to take in the city as much as possible. I've got to be a responsible grown-up now, and focus on finishing this disseration without too much distraction!

I'll always love London, but it was never going to be my forever home, so there's no need to drag out an imminent departure. So, it looks like the end of June will be my 'goodbye' date. I'm facing it now. Here's to a smashing last two months! I'll live them well.

  1. Savor every minute and ENJOY! I am sad for you, I know that all you say here is true in theory, but I am one to drag things out till the very end and think that a week or two or four actually do make a difference :) But at least you have time left, and don't have to leave like next week. Now- enjoy!!

    1. And normally I would so agree...except that I would spend those 4 weeks stressed over getting this dissertation done while not getting very good sleep on the couch :/

Anyway, this isn't the last London will see of me! I'll be back to visit my whole life ;)

    2. I understand what you mean. After all, you need to get that thing written! And not stress about squeezing every last drop out of London at the same time. It sounds very grown up and responsible to do it as you are going to!!

  2. Glad you've come to a decision you're happy with Ashley.

I'm in the same boat - I'll leave here at the end of June too and while it's something I really want, it's weird and sad in ways too.

Cheers to new beginnings (for both of us) xx

  5. Oh I'm sad for you! Please tell me you'll go see the Bluth's Banana stand before you go. They have one up in london to promote the new season. I have given my husband strict instructions to go see it next week.
