Music Challenge, Day 6: A Song That Reminds You of Somewhere

hehehe. This one makes me laugh.

"Time After Time" takes me back to the late 80s, where I can barely remember much, because I was under 5 years old.

What I do remember is riding in my dad's new Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Ohhhhhh yeahhhhhhh. And in true 80s fashion, the Oldsmobile came with a nifty little cassette tape that had popular hits on it. The two songs from the tape I remember the most are "Billie Jean," from MJ and "Time After Time" from Cyndi Lauper.

So, now every time I hear those two songs, EVERY TIME, I think about toddler Ashley jamming to the 80s in a sweeeeeet ride.

And you know what? I STILL love those two songs.

  2. So I scrolled down to see your least favorite song because I missed it somehow....I actually kinda like that song (Bad Day)! Hee hee.

I remember first hearing it on American Idol, back when I used to watch that show. Have to admit, the song sounded kind of cheesy in the context of a cheesy moment on AI. But taken alone, I like it!

Did you not like that song because American Idol overplayed it?

    D.

  3. I love this song. I love how melodramatic it was, and how unapologetic it was about its melodrama. No way we can pull that off these days without coming off cheesy. One of the best songs of the 80's.

  4. Brissa--yeah, the video is so random!

D--I just hate that song. haha. It annoys me to death. It's beyond repetitive and I just don't think it's good. My opinion :)

  6. I never remember listening to any contemporary music in the 80s, (my parents are folkies and I was the oldest child). But I do remember Time After Time. No idea when or where, but I guess that song was just ubiquitous. And I like it, in the way that I like 80s teenager movies!

  7. Not sure if you've gathered over time how big a Miles Davis fan I am. He did a cover of this song that was probably one of the highest points of his last period.
