Music Challenge, Day 24: A Song That You Want to Play At Your Funeral

Back to the music challenge! I need to finish this bad boy...

(that's what she said)

So, my funeral. Well, that's a morbid thought, and I hadn't actually thought of what song I wanted played at my death bed. Who thinks of these things? But, I believe I chose a good one. I don't think I have to explain my choice. Enjoy:

The Challenge so far:
day 08 - a song that you know all the words to
day 18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio

  1. Not a bad choice... and yes this thought it quite morbid. Then again, if the time comes earlier than thought or hoped...friends and family always choose the right songs, too!

  2. Hey I did this challenge. The only songs I think worth mentioning are two: one is my favorite song, "I'm only sleeping" by the Beatles. No song has ever had such a profound effect on my life and struck me so close to my core. I remember having days where I was just intoxicated on the feeling that song gave me. I think it created this little refuge in my heart of peace and beauty, and whenever I yearn for spiritual rest, I go to that song. The other song is the one I played at my funeral, also the last one I want to listen to before I die. It's called "Fisherman's Horizon" by Nobuo Uematsu. There's a piano version you can find on youtube, that's the one I mean. I think piano music is amazing and creates a stillness to the world and your perspective on everything, in a way that you can only see the beauty of things, and all the junk is gone, far away. Something about the silence is immense, magnificent. I always listen to that song when I wanna reflect on where I am, where I've been, and where I'm going. Such a great song, ah beautiful.

Anyway, I like your list! You definitely have a nice color to your spirit that you put in your words.

PS. I posted my journals from my trip on my blog under the tab called "Abhayagiri"... it's long enough to be it's own book, so I can't blame you if you don't read it, but there's a lot of stuff there.

  5. GREAT song and performance, from Aretha's peak period. Good call!

  6. I would go with Sinatra's "That's Life," just for the one or two people who would get the joke.

  7. I need to get back on my list. I think I'm still on 15. This is a fantastic choice. One of my favorite songs. I posted my top 5 funeral songs a while back. "You bastard! That's so good, it should have been mine." But most likely when I get to 24, you'll see Mavis Staples.
